Wendy Lowe Besmann is the author of Team Up for Your Child and directs the Team Up for Families initiative. She is a longtime journalist and parent trainer, as well as the mother of a son with autism and bipolar disorder. (More about Wendy’s work.) Besmann is the former president of NAMI Knoxville and served as Training/Social Marketing Coordinator for K-Town Youth Empowerment Network, a federal grantee System of Care for teens and young adults in Knox County, TN. Her interest in family-driven, peer-centered training began when she worked as a certified NAMI Basics instructor, and later as a certified High Fidelity Wraparound trainer. Wendy is the Lead Trainer and Administrator for the Team Up for Families Road Map curriculum, whose goal is to teach family-tested strategies for navigating service systems. She has presented her workshops at Georgetown Institutes System of Care conferences, National Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health Annual Conference, and training venues from New York to Hawaii.
